This is a poster design I created last year for a local church. They have an ongoing series of teachings called the Biblical Studies Program, in which they have special weeknight classrom-style meetings with intensive studies of the Bible. For this particular series, the theme would be the overarching themes of the Bible – how it speaks to itself, defines itself, interrprets itself, as well as the Bible-wide stories.I used a background montage that I created in Photoshop, with photographs of the first and last books of the Bible – Genesis and Revelation, plus some added paper and grunge textures for visual appeal. The grandness of the typeography and layout are meant to give expression to the grand scale of the teaching so that class attendees would already have a sense of what to expect as they signed up to take part.

DIY Design On a Tight Budget

It's a very gritty look. The background is good for an apocalyptic theme. I think the typewriter font gives a good news paper editor feel, just as if the headlines that will occur in the Bible sermons will be fullfulled prophecy in the newspapers.
Or perhaps the Bible pages you included in the background look like old documents such as ealy Bibles printed in the past.
Thanks for your feedback. It needed a grand yet gritty feel to it, so it sounds like I was successful. I like your take on the apocalyptic theme!
